The APPG on Prostate Cancer notes that Calvin Bailey MBE MP has stepped down as Chair of the Group following his appointment as Minister for Veterans and People at the Ministry of Defence.
Commenting on his departure, Calvin said:
“I am honoured to be taking on the role of Minister for Veterans and People in His Majesty’s Government, although this is bittersweet as it means I will have to step back as Chair of the APPG on Prostate Cancer. Since we launched the Group in January 2025, we have exerted pressure for change while seeking to keep pace with what has been an extremely consequential period for prostate cancer in the UK. During this time, we’ve seen the publication of the Government’s National Cancer Plan, the Men’s Health Strategy and the outcome of the National Screening Committee’s deliberations over a screening programme along with the accompanying announcement of an additional £20m investment to expand the TRANSFORM screening trial.
“Our Group has convened experts, produced reports, taken questions to Government and helped shape the debate when it comes to this most critical of health care challenges.
“I would like to express my thanks to my fellow APPG Officers and Members who have helped and contributed to the successful delivery of this work. We have no shortage of committed colleagues in Parliament who can take this on and I look forward to seeing the work of the Group continue.”
The Secretariat would like to extend its sincere thanks to Calvin and his staff on behalf of the Group for his leadership and contribution since the APPG’s establishment.
Further details regarding the election of a new Chair and Officer of the Group will follow in due course.
